How to set the signal length on the Seiko Z120

When connected to an audible device (such as a bell or siren), the Seiko Z120 time clock has the ability to annunciate shift start times, shift finish times and meal breaks, etc.

These time signals are defined by three independently programmable signal lengths (known as signal patterns).  Having three independent signal lengths allows you to create short, medium and long time signals to suit your individual requirements.

The length of each signal pattern can be programmed from 1 to 30 seconds.

The default signal pattern lengths are as follows:

Signal Pattern # Signal Length
1 5 seconds
2 10 seconds
3 20 seconds


If you need to set or alter the signal length on your Seiko Z120 time clock, follow the procedure below.


If you are already in program mode and are continuing from a previous function option, you can jump ahead to step 5.

  1. With the power applied to the Seiko Z120, unlock and remove the cover.

  3. Press the SETTING button once.  This will enter program mode.

  5. Once in program mode, the display will show " ".

  7. Press and hold the FUNCTION button for 1-2 seconds.  This will enter the first function option.

    If the display shows "9999" when entering function program mode, you are required to enter the four digit password to proceed.

  9. Press the FUNCTION button as required to position the "" mark under the SIGNAL LENGTH option.

  11. Initially, the signal pattern option value will be flashing.  If necessary, press the or buttons to alter the option value to select which of the three signal patterns you wish to program.

    Press the SET button to proceed to the length.


  12. The length value will now be flashing.  If necessary, press the or buttons to alter the length of the signal (in seconds).

    Press the SET button to complete the procedure.

    If after completing the procedure, you wish to alter another signal pattern, pressing the SET button once will return to you to step 6.  From there, you can program further signal patterns.

  14. If you don't need to alter any further settings, press the SETTING button once.  This will exit program mode.

  15. If you don't press the SETTING button to complete programming, the Z120 will remain in program mode and will not accept time cards.

  16. Replace and lock the cover.
